Nice, fun weekend

So I went to visit my BF's family bacause he is staying with them for about a week to help out with his grandfather's surgery. We went to his sister's house and they introduced us to this game called corn hole. No I am not making it up. Anyway, I guess it is like a new take on a bean bag toss game, but since I have never played that it was all new to me. OMG!! It was so fun. I am totally addicted to it. They made their own bags and boards ( because they are handy like that) but I am going to buy a set (because I am lazy like that). We played until midnight. We were hot and sweaty, but kept playing. We we thirsty and tired, but kept playing. It started raining.....and we kept playing. C and I were so good that no one believed it was our first time. It was fun. Just being around his siser and brother in law and brother and sister in law was nice. Their kids are so cute and sweet-very well behaved. I really had a nice time. I also got to go to sonic and get some tater tots and  finally try their ocean water. It really just tasted like sprite to me. I didn't get much of the coconut taste but at least I tried it. I got a few things from the yard sales-nothing overly exciting. I went to a Hobbly Lobby for the first time and it was like heaven. They have so many neat things and it is such a big store that I didn't get to really see it all because I was in a rush to get going. I am going to go back soon though. I found my soji screen that I wanted and was going to buy it but the only one they had in the natrual wood was ripped. I also couldn't think of a place to put it. I think I might re-arrange our bedroom and see if I can find a place for it. I also saw this mirror that I absolutely love, but was reluctant to buy it since it was a bit pricey. Maybe if it goes on sale because I think it would look great above the sofa. Other than that, it was a pretty restful weekend. Hung with a friend on Friday night and went to Buffalo Wild Wings. Was with the BF on Saturday and came home Sunday. Now I am back at work. =(

Just something beautiful to look at

Goodbye HLM-see you soon

My HLM left today =( What a sad, sad day. I went by to say goodbye to her last night and I admit it, I cried a little. We've never been separated for this long. The longest ever was when she went to Mexico for 4 months to study abroad. That was hard and boy did I have a killer phone bill!! Now with skype and everything, that should not be a problem. I'm on the fence about whether or not I should meet her in  Guatemala the weekend of July 4th. I want to, I really do. But I can only afford to visit her twice and if I go this soon, it only leaves once for almost a year. If I wait and go in October, then I can go again in maybe March. Then she will be home after that. I can't believe Guate is so expensive to fly to. $500 and that isn't even non-stop. The other reservation I have is that I really don't want to fly alone. I hate to fly and doing it alone is scary. C is coming with me to Spain so that will be good. I don't know. He is leaving for a week tomorrow and even though the time apart will be kind of nice, I am really gonna miss him. So my weekend is looking very boring. Maybe I'll take my dog for a haircut or do some yard work. I need another bag of mulch and maybe some flowers. My grass also needs to be mowed. When you own a house, there is always something to do. Just when you think you've finished, something else pops up....

Before and after: chairs

I think today I will write 2 separate posts. The first I will dedicate to my dining room chairs. These are the ones I got about a 3 weeks ago at a yard sale for $50, remember? I was going to re-stain them but decided that they matched the kitchen perfectly and that only the cushions needed to be re-covered. SO, I re-covered.....one. I'm getting around to the other 3, soon. Anyway, the one that I did cover looks fantastic and I just wanted to post a quick before and after. The before is on the left, the after on the right: What do you all think?

Weekend, random things

So Monday is here and that sucks. My HLM is leaving tomorrow and that makes me sad. But knowing I get to visit her a couple of times makes me happy! Yay! The weekend was nice. I went to Target with her and we went and got some food at this little 'southern' place. Their food is mediocre, but they have these delicious cheesy grits that I swear have crack in them! I also got my AC fixed in my car-so of course this morning it was chilly out. Of course. The whole week is supposed to be nice an cool....the story of my life. Anyway, then Saturday night I cleaned the casa-I know so exciting. Yesterday we cooked out on the grill and C made some yummy filet mignon and chicken breast. I cooked warm potato salad and string beans and it was soooooo good. I even have leftover chicken for lunch. I also took a shot at the french onion soup I had been wanting to make. Hmm. We'll it was OK. I don't think I would ever make it again. I don't know if it was the recipe or what because I have never had french onion soup, but I didn't care for it. It was a bit too sweet between the caramelized onions and wine and the bread on top got really soggy. I did discover that I LOVE gruyere cheese. Of course I do-it's $20/lb! That is crazy expensive, but it was sooooo good. I ended up toasting some baguette with dinner last night and adding it  with some parm to the top. C is going to his family's this Wednesday for about a week because his grandfather is having prostate surgery and they need his help. He's going to help his mom take care of his grandfather. So i will be all alone with both him and HLM leaving me =( Good thing I got my precious little doggies to keep me company. Hooray for dogs! They are the best ever! The always love you no matter how you look, they are always happy to see you and just petting them makes them really happy. Show me a man like that......=)

A wonderful day

Saturday  was the Koman race for the cure and it was wonderful! We arrived and headed over to the vip tent where they had bagels, water and cupcakes for us. I ate half of a bagel because my decision not to eat at 6am when I woke up didn't seem so smart at 7:30 am when my stomach started rolling. We got some free plastic water bottles and bracelets and chatted a bit with the other people in our group. Then we went over to get our (really nice) aluminum water bottles we won and my reusable bag I got for fundraising. The we went and talked to some survivors. The race started and the weather was perfect!!! We walked at a decent pace and finished the 5K in just over an hour. I really enjoyed myself and definitely want to do it again. I am now seriously considering the 3 day walk. It just felt so good to do something great for a good cause. The only thing that worries me a bit about the 3 day  is that you have to raise $2300 to even be able to do the race. That seems like an awful lot of money to raise. I wouldn't be able to do it this September, but I really think I might do it next year. Anyway, the race was really fun and I am glad I did it. Afterwards, my friend I walked with, my HLM and I all went to this restaurant we had been wanting to try. They got eggs benedict and I got a delicious goat cheese and spinach omelet. It was really good and they served it with the best bread basket. I am now addicted to those omelets and make them at home adding some mushrooms. It was overall a really nice day and with my HLM leaving in 1 WEEK, I was glad to spend time with her. This is something I think I will do for every year from now on.

Walking for Breast Cancer

Tomorrow is my 5K walk for breast cancer and I am so excited. Our team has even been upgraded to VIP! I can't wait. The weather is supposed to be nice-not too humid. I feel like it's a win-win situation. I'm doing something good for a good cause and doing something great for my body. My HLM has agreed to drop me so I don't have to worry about parking (with a treated breakfast as motivation). I can't believe she is leaving in 10 days! I hope the time she is gone flies by like this. She'll be back in no time. I think I am going to plan on visiting in October and then some time when she has a break from teaching. The October trip be be a long weekend, maybe flying out thursday night and coming back Sunday night. Just to really hang with her. The longer one will be like a vacation with us traveling (hopefully) to Paris or some other place relatively close. That will be like a  Friday to the following Saturday trip. Hoping to get some relatively cheap tickets. Anyway, not much else planned for the weekend. Maybe more yard work and time with my dogs. I feel like I never see them. Oh and gotta pick up the part for my car because next week I am getting the air fxed! Woo to the hoo! Other than that, the race is the big thing.
